The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA), as the representative body and official voice of the commercial and industrial property sector in South Africa, has continued to make notable strides in meeting its goal of enhancing the property sector in this country.

1966 – 2016 – Fifty years after its inception, SAPOA is considered an institution in the South African property industry. Regarded as an influential voice, it is able to bring the concerns and opinions of the property industry to government and other important stakeholders, both locally and internationally. It is easy to forget that over 50 years ago, SAPOA was merely an idea, a tiny seed that had yet to find purchase in the minds of even the most likely stakeholders.



SAPOA aims to be a nationally accepted and internationally recognised leading property association. SAPOA’s mission is to be committed to represent, protect and advance our members’ commercial property interests within the property industry actively and responsibly.




SAPOA is committed to protecting the interests of the commercial and industrial property sectors, in terms of ownership, management and development.

Our objectives are based on the principles of the free enterprise system as the only workable economic system and the inalienability of property ownership, not only for its members but also for the future of South Africa, and its competitiveness in the world arena.


  • Issue a clear position on matters relevant to the property industry where the interests of its members and the economy as a whole are impacted upon.
  • Provide a source of information for members and government through the coalition, collection and dissemination of property data and statistics.
  • Enable wider participation in the industry by historically disadvantaged members of the community to become involved as owners, developers, employees and managers in the property industry.
  • Provide professionally designed education programmes.
  • Whilst maintaining non-political bias, expand contacts with government at all levels to ensure our continued good relations and recognition as the authoritative voice of the commercial and industrial property industry.



The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA), founded in the year 1966, aims to protect the interests of the industrial and commercial property industry within the country. As a uniquely member-driven organisation, SAPOA’s goal is to encourage private property ownership and development.

The companies main aim is to be accepted and recognised (both nationally and internationally) as a leading property association.

The SAPOA bursary fund intends to address the shortage of skills shortage within the South African Commercial Property Industry. The fund is aimed at assisting young black deserving financially disadvantaged students, in the hopes that they can transform the countries commercial property industry.


SAPOA bursaries will be awarded to those studying towards a property-related qualification, particularly the following fields of study:

Finance (BCom) (majoring in Property Valuation and Management)
Property Valuation and Management (BCom)
Property Management (BSc)
Property Studies (BSc)
Real Estate (BSc)
Town and Regional Planning (BSc)
Urban and Regional Planning (BSc)
Construction Studies (BSc)
Quantity Surveying (BSc)

Once students have graduated, they may be offered employment via the Graduate Development Programme, within SAPOA (or a member company). This is subject to availability within the company.


Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

South African citizen OR South African naturalized citizen
Completed Matric
Studying or intend on studying full-time in one of the aforementioned fields of study
Studying at a recognised University or University of Technology in South Africa (registered with the Council for Higher Education),
Black students, as defined by the BBBEE Act (i.e. African/ Coloured/ Indian)
Good academic record
Proven financial need
